One day, Jesus' disciples (his followers) were in a boat on a big lake called the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was with them. After a busy day of teaching crowds of people, Jesus was so tired that he fell asleep in the back of the boat with his head on a pillow.
The disciples were rowing the boat, talking about everything they had learned from Jesus.
The Storm Arrives
Suddenly, the sky turned dark. The wind started to blow—harder and harder and HARDER.
The waves got bigger and bigger, crashing over the sides of the boat. Water started filling up the boat! The disciples were experienced fishermen, but this storm was unlike anything they'd ever seen.
They were terrified!
"Help! The boat is sinking!" they cried. "We're going to drown!"
But Jesus was still asleep. He didn't seem to care about the terrible storm.
Wake Jesus Up!
In their panic, the disciples remembered who was in the boat with them—Jesus, who had done miracles!
They ran to where Jesus was sleeping and shook him awake. "Master! Master! Wake up!" they shouted. "Don't you care that we're about to die?"
Jesus opened his eyes calmly. He looked at the storm, then at his frightened disciples.
The Command
Jesus stood up in the boat. He looked at the wild wind and the angry waves and said just three words:
"Peace. Be still."
That's all. Three simple words.
But the moment Jesus spoke, something amazing happened. The wind immediately stopped blowing. The waves became completely calm. The storm vanished as if it had never been there.
The lake became as smooth as glass. There was perfect peace.
A Question About Fear
All the disciples stood there with their mouths open, dripping wet and amazed.
Then Jesus asked them gently, "Why are you so scared? Don't you have faith in me yet?"
The disciples looked at each other. They had just seen something incredible. "Who is this man?" they whispered. "Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
The Lesson
We all go through storms in life—times when things feel scary and out of control. Maybe it's a scary test, a fight with a friend, or worries about the future. These are our "storms." Jesus teaches us that even when we're terrified, we can have peace if we trust him. He's more powerful than any storm. He can bring calm to any chaos. All we need to do is have faith.
